We've been thinking about skateboard culture a lot lately. Not the tricks or the scene, but more about how a well-designed deck just looks good. Like, genuinely good. The shape is distinctive. The proportions are confident. A deck hung on a wall reads as art without trying to be art, which is harder to achieve than it sounds.
So we decided to make one that would never touch pavement. A skateboard deck designed specifically for walls.
Why a skateboard shape works as wall art
The skateboard deck is one of the few objects from everyday culture that translates directly to an art context without losing its identity. You know what it is immediately. You know the shape. But when it's made from transparent acrylic and mounted on a wall, it's no longer a skateboard. It's an object that references skateboarding, which is a different, more interesting thing.
The shape brings with it a set of associations: movement, design culture, youth, independence. None of those things are present in a standard art print or a framed photograph. A skateboard deck wall piece adds those references without being obvious about it. It's a conversation piece in the literal sense, something that prompts questions about where it came from and what it means.
Acrylic as the right material for this
The Found Atelier skateboard decks are made from high-quality transparent acrylic. Not painted, not tinted, not covered. Transparent. The material does the work.
Acrylic catches light differently at different times of day. In the morning with directional sunlight, it creates subtle refractions on nearby walls. In the evening with warm artificial light, it reads warmer and more solid. The transparency means the wall behind the deck is always part of the composition. If the wall is white, the deck appears to float. If the wall is dark, the deck creates a layered effect.
This is consistent with the Found Atelier approach to material in general: use the material's inherent properties as a design feature rather than covering them up.
Normal Deck versus Wave Deck
The collection includes two shapes. The Normal Deck is the classic symmetrical shape most people recognize immediately. Clean, familiar, and versatile. It works in most interiors without requiring anything around it to change.
The Wave Deck has an asymmetric curved profile. It reads more like sculpture and less like a recognizable object, which means it works differently in a space. The Wave Deck asks more of the viewer. It creates more visual tension, which is a feature in rooms that already have some complexity in the furniture or materials.
Both are priced at EUR 69.99. Both mount with the same included bracket, which allows you to adjust the angle of the deck on the wall.
Where to hang it
The skateboard deck works best as a single piece in a space that doesn't need more complexity. A white wall in a living room. A concrete wall in a studio. Above a desk in a home office that leans minimal. It's not a gallery wall piece, it's a solo statement.
The bracket allows the deck to be positioned at different angles, which changes its character significantly. Nose up is the most traditional skateboard reference. Horizontal reads more like a shelf or architectural detail. Nose down is unusual and creates a sense of movement downward. Try all three positions before deciding.
Height-wise, the deck works at eye level, roughly 155 to 165 cm to the center, where it reads as an intentional object rather than a stored item. Above a sofa or a desk it picks up on the furniture's horizontal line. On an empty wall between two doors it becomes the room's focal point.
Who this is for
The Found Atelier skateboard deck is for people who want wall art that isn't a print, isn't a painting, and isn't trying to be either of those things. It's for people who find the language of design culture interesting and want to bring it into their interior without making a big gesture about it. It's also an honest gift for someone who is hard to buy for, because nothing like it exists anywhere else.
Made from recycled acrylic. Ships flat in protective packaging. Mounting instructions and bracket included.
